Using ALEKS classes that have been aligned to Eureka Math/Engage NY Curriculum)
Sample scenario to use this option: You are teaching 8th grade students and using Eureka Math/ EngageNY curriculum.
Scope and Sequence documents for Eureka Math/EngageNY
Pros:
- Students are directed to work on ALEKS topics in the order they appear in the scope and sequence.
- Students are directed to work on foundational standards for a module before they work on the focus Standards.
- Since all students use the same ALEKS course, less teacher time is needed to review ALEKS progress data.
- After the initial knowledge check, a teacher can readily identify the level of intervention needed for each module.
- Objectives may have end dates for each objective to set a pace.
- The ALEKS gradebook may be set up for giving a grade based on objectives mastery.
Cons:
- Students may lack proficiency in foundational standards and not have access to many topics for practice.
- Students may have so many prerequisite topics to master that they never are able to master foundational or focus standards for a module.
- Teachers may need to change proficiency level for an objective.
- Students may not be able to keep up with the pace.
- Students who are added to your class at a later date will not have objective grades for prior modules so the teacher must look up and enter.
